The concept is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The concept is based on the use of replaceable battery containers, to be known as “ZESPacks”. To make it easier for barge operators to sign-on to the concept, a ‘pay-per-use’ financing model has been developed.

Project Volt Gas Volt is based on a long-term financing plan and the use of existing technologies for the large-scale conversion of surplus renewable electricity to methane, with subsequent reuse.
