Hybrid vehicle market share (excluding plug-in hybrids) in California increased to 7% in the first half of 2013, up from 6.2% in 2012, according to the California Auto Outlook for the second quarter of 2013. For the first six months of 2013, hybrid registrations (excluding plug-ins), were 59,300 units; plug-in hybrids, 5,736 units; and battery electric vehicles, 9,708 units. Ford recalling nearly 140,000 2013 Escapes with 1.6L EcoBoost engines over fire potential

Petrobras says it will increase production capacity by 1M barrels per day in 2013

Chrysler Group recalling 2013 Fiat 500e BEVs over half shaft bolt issue

Chrysler Group is recalling approximately 270 model-year 2013 Fiat 500e battery-electric vehicles to replace bolts that secure the vehicles’ half shafts. The 500e went on sale in California in July. The issue is unrelated to the 500e’s electric powertrain. Half shafts transfer torque from a vehicle’s gearbox to its wheels. An investigation was launched after Chrysler Group learned a customer’s vehicle exhibited power loss.

Ford to expand 3-Wet Paint capacity by 50% globally in 2013

After re-labeling the 2013 C-MAX Hybrid with lower fuel economy, Ford is upgrading the 2014 C-MAX to increase fuel economy. Ford has opted voluntarily to relabel the 2013 C-MAX Hybrid with revised fuel economy labels following EPA testing of the 2013 C-Max Hybrid. GM sales in China hit 2 million mark for 2013; 4th year in row and earliest yet

General Motors and its joint ventures in China have sold their 2 millionth vehicle in 2013. In the first seven months of 2013, GM and its joint ventures sold a record 1,788,972 vehicles in China. This is the fourth consecutive year that GM’s sales in China have reached 2 million units and the earliest in the company’s history. Last year, GM sold its 2 millionth vehicle on September 21. It became the first global automaker in China to reach the milestone in 2010.
