Australia and Japan developing safety standards for marine transport of liquid hydrogen; KHI building carrier

Australia Hydrogen Japan Ports and MarineAustralia and Japan recently signed a memorandum at the headquarters of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority ( AMSA ) which will allow liquid hydrogen (LH 2 ) to be shipped in bulk for the first time. Ship containment systems are being developed in Japan that will be capable of safely transporting liquid hydrogen in bulk from Australia to Japan as part of a pilot project scheduled to commence in 2020.

Neste Oil launching new low-sulfur marine fuel in December

Neste Oil will bring to the market a low-sulfur marine fuel in accordance with the EU sulfur Directive requirements entering into force in 2015, and will begin distributing it in mid-December. The new fuel will significantly reduce sulfur, nitrogen and particle emissions in marine transportation. The sulfur Directive sets a maximum sulfur limit of 0.1% (1000 ppm) for marine fuels in the Baltic Sea, the North Sea and the English Channel.
