EIA expects US motor fuel consumption to increase this summer, but remain below 2019 levels

The higher expected natural gas prices cause the forecast share of generation from coal to rise from 20% in 2020 to 22% this year, and to 23% next year. EIA expects US coal production to total 585 MMst in 2021, 46 MMst (9%) more than in 2020. In 2022, EIA expects coal production to grow by an additional 16 MMst (3%).

EIA: US energy-related CO2 fell by 2.8% in 2019, slightly below 2017 levels
