New study finds GHG emissions from palm oil production significantly underestimated; palm oil biofuels could be more climate-damaging than oil sands fuels

Green Car Congress

Historical analysis shows strong acceleration of plantation development in recent years: 70% of all industrial plantations have been established since 2000 and only 4% of the current plantation area existed in 1990. That number is in my opinion conservative, and consistent with a slight reduction in the rate of peat conversion.

Researchers demonstrate sustainable integrated process for wastewater algae to biocrude via hydrothermal liquefaction

Green Car Congress

A team at the University of Kansas has demonstrated the feasibility of an integrated wastewater algae-to-biocrude process using hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) that can sustainably cultivate algal biomass for biofuel production. A wet whole cell conversion pathway, hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL), has gained popularity in the past few years.

Consortium Launches Britains First Dual Fuel Biomethane Bus; Emissions Cut in Half

Green Car Congress

A consortium brought together by low carbon experts at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the UK launched the first bus in the UK to run on biomethane gas. In particular, the cost of conversion of a diesel bus to dual-fuel use is a small fraction of the cost of a new natural gas bus. Biomethane bus. Click to enlarge.

Tsinghua team develops bio-inspired self-healing sulfur electrodes; almost no capacity decay after 2000 cycles

Green Car Congress

By mimicking fibrinolysis, a biological self-healing process, researchers at China’s Tsinghua University have developed a self-healing sulfur microparticle (SMiP) cathode. Spatial heterogeneity plays a vital role in the conversion-type electrochemical reactions, agreeing with the insertion-type ones coincidently. mg (S) cm −2.

NOAA study: Increase in stratospheric aerosols has offset some recent climate warming

Green Car Congress

The authors analyzed measurements from several independent sources—satellites and several types of ground instruments—and found a definitive increase in stratospheric aerosol since 2000. The increase in aerosols since 2000 implies a cooling effect of about 0.1 watts per square meter—enough to offset some of the 0.28

Researchers Demonstrate New Solar Carbon Capture Process; STEP Converts CO2 to Solid Carbon or CO for Use in Fuels and Chemicals Synthesis

Green Car Congress

Solar thermal energy decreases the energy required for the endothermic conversion of carbon dioxide and kinetically facilitates electrochemical reduction, while solar visible energy generates electronic charge to drive the electrolysis.
