Researchers at Tsinghua University in China have shown that sugarcane juice is a good feedstock for biodiesel production, when used to support the growth of the alga Chlorella protothecoides by heterotrophic fermentation. This new study investigated further improvements in algal oil yield, while minimizing the cost of fermentation.

Chromatin Inc. announced its dual-purpose SweetFuel sorghum hybrids, which combine high yields of both fermentable sugar and biomass per acre.

The project will focus on a verification of a long-time based stable operation and methods to minimize the cost of producing methane gas, as well as determine the effectiveness of the methane produced as a vehicle fuel. These include palm residue, the remnants of sugarcane crushed to extract juice, and food factory wastewater.

As anyone with half a brain would expect, many complaints were lodged about the cost of Level 3 chargers, most of which can recharge an EV in jig time but can hoover up a six-figure invoice without blinking. Dealers apparently argued that slow Level 2 chargers were more than sufficient to keep new EVs full of juice for test drives.&

Only half the story about public charging is providing juice: enabling drivers to extend the range of their vehicles beyond their night-time "fill-up" at home when necessary and overcoming newbie "range anxiety." Juice flows. Take that every way it can be taken. The other half, for the next five years or so, is outreach and education.
