Barroso was born in Brazil and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 1989 in electrical engineering from Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. in computer engineering in 1996 from the University of Southern California. In 2004 Barroso was tasked with investigating ways to build more efficient data centers.
