Toshiba develops new magnetic material that delivers improved motor energy conversion efficiency

Green Car Congress

Toshiba’s new material greatly boosts motor energy conversion efficiency when it is used as the wedges in a motor, particularly in a medium to large induction motor. They are normally made of non-magnetic material, but the use of magnetic material has been found to guide magnetic flux toward the wedges, improving energy conversion efficiency.

New process uses localized surface plasmons for room-temperature conversion of CO2 to CO

Green Car Congress

Although the researchers demonstrated this method in a small-scale, highly controlled environment with dimensions of just nanometers (billionths of a meter), they have already come up with concepts for scaling up the method and making it practical for real-world applications. Northwestern team identifies site in enzyme responsible for methane-methanol conversion

Green Car Congress

Methanotrophic bacteria remove methane from the environment and convert it into methanol. An interdisciplinary team at Northwestern University has found that the enzyme responsible for the methane-methanol conversion catalyzes this reaction at a site that contains just one copper ion. The study is published in the journal Science.

Researchers show mixotrophic fermentation process improves carbon conversion, boosting yields and reducing CO2

Green Car Congress

One way to mitigate high feedstock cost is to maximize conversion into the bioproduct of interest. This maximization, though, is limited because of the production of CO 2 during the conversion of sugar into acetyl-CoA in traditional fermentation processes. Acetogens are anaerobic bacteria, which cannot grow in oxygenated environments.
