Cuba’s Power Grid Nears Total Failure

Cars That Think

Cuba has secured a substantial amount of oil from Venezuela since 2000 through a favorable agreement. The government had trouble paying the high leasing prices, so the ships’ operators withdrew from Cuba’s waters, taking hundreds of megawatts with them. Pilot projects for wind farms are underway.

This in turn causes a reduction in nighttime winds that would otherwise blow pollutants out to sea. In addition, built structures interfere with local winds and contribute to relatively stagnant afternoon weather conditions. Fei and his colleagues focused on wind patterns, which are driven by temperature contrasts between land and sea.

Univ. of Texas researchers propose lithium- or sodium-water batteries as next generation of high-capacity battery technology; applicable for EVs and grid storage

Green Car Congress

Example of a lithium-water rechargeable battery. Researchers at the University of Texas, including Dr. John Goodenough, are proposing a strategy for high-capacity next-generation alkali (lithium or sodium)-ion batteries using water-soluble redox couples as the cathode. In theory, the decomposition potential of water is 4.27

Worldwide, wind and sun supply a sufficient amount of energy, but not always at the right time. After that, a pre-industrial demonstration plant in the megawatt range, i.e. with a production capacity of 1500 to 2000 liters per day, will be designed. Photo: P2X project/Patrick Langer, KIT).
