The German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) approved the funding application for the consortium research project HyCET (Hydrogen Combustion Engine Trucks) led by the BMW Group. The other HyCET project partners are DEUTZ AG, DHL Freight GmbH, KEYOU GmbH, TotalEnergies Marketing Deutschland GmbH and Volvo Group. The research project aims to demonstrate the sustainability potential of trucks with hydrogen combustion engines for transport logistics.

Electrofuels provider Infinium announced an agreement with Amazon to begin using Infinium Electrofuels in the retailer’s middle mile fleet as an ultra-low carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuels. Werner Enterprises, a premier transportation and logistics provider, has signed a letter of intent to purchase 500 Cummins’ 15-liter hydrogen internal combustion engines upon availability. ETH Zurich spin-off Synhelion has started the construction of DAWN—its own industrial plant to produce synthetic fuels using solar heat. ( Earlier post.) BMW has begun fuel cell system production at the company’s competence center for hydrogen in Munich. A small series of BMW iX5 Hydrogen cars will be entering service around the world from the end of this year for test and demonstration purposes. The BMW Group sources the individual fuel cells required for manufacturing the BMW iX5 Hydrogen from the Toyota Motor Corporation.
Battery swap stations are Nio’s signature replenishment facility, and it is currently the only company offering such models to the general consumer. There are also other companies in China that offer models with battery swap support, but for the taxi market. Cenntro Electric Group Limited and its subsidiary Cenntro Automotive Europe GmbH introduced two new all-electric commercial vehicles at IAA Transportation 2022 in Hannover, Germany. The two new vehicles, the Logistar 260 (LS260) and the Logistar 100 (LS100), join the LS product line now available globally in Class 1 to Class 4. Bosch is starting volume production of a new drive unit consisting of an electric motor and an integrated inverter for light commercial vehicles. The inverter controls the electric motor and provides the connection to the high-voltage battery. Compared to its predecessors, the new unit provides even higher power and torque density and is even lighter and more compact.
