TU Dresden study on external costs of automotive transportation in Europe calls for internalization of the high external costs; raising user prices to change behavior

Green Car Congress

A recent study from Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden) commissioned by the Greens/European Free Allianace (EFA) in the European Parliament concluded that the cars used within the EU-27 externalize up to about €373 billion (US$493 billion) per year (high estimate) of costs on to other people, other regions and other generations.

ZeroAvia & Otto Aviation partner to deliver first new airframe design with hydrogen-electric engine option

Green Car Congress

The collaboration has the potential to make the Celera the first new airframe design to leverage zero-emission propulsion in its launch models. Otto’s advanced aircraft design offers exceptionally low drag across the entire aircraft. The design of the Celera fuselage, empennage and wings take advantage of laminar flow.

Study concludes that NG leakage higher than reflected in inventories; transportation fuel climate benefits questioned

Green Car Congress

In contrast to the “green light” for coal-to-NG substitution for power generation, the authors suggest that climate benefits from vehicle fuel substitution are uncertain (gasoline, light-duty) or improbable (diesel, heavy-duty). Modeling has shown climate benefits from coal to NG switching for power generation over all time periods (i.e.,

KIT team designs low-cost photoreactor for efficient solar-driven synthesis

Green Car Congress

Researchers from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and their Canadian partners have designed a low-cost photoreactor design for solar-driven synthesis. Until now, however, the technology has mainly been found in the laboratory because the costs of producing solar hydrogen were simply too high. Kant et al.
