UK to award £54M to 15 projects developing innovative carbon removal technology

Green Car Congress

The UK government is awarding £54 million to 15 projects to develop technologies that remove carbon emissions from the atmosphere. The carbon dioxide can then be permanently stored or used in various products or applications. The biochar is rich in carbon and can be used as a fertilizer. Cambridge Carbon Capture Ltd.,

Consortium moves ahead with HESC pilot for conversion of Australian coal to LH2 for transport to Japan

Green Car Congress

The Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain ( HESC ) project will convert brown coal from the AGL Loy Yang mine into hydrogen at an adjacent site and then transport the gas by road in high pressure tube trailers to a liquefaction terminal at the Port of Hastings. To mitigate any impact, carbon offsets will be purchased by the consortium.

Steelmaker ArcelorMittal Europe targets 30% cut in carbon emissions by 30% by 2030

Green Car Congress

The target for ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products is in line with an ambition announced in May to be carbon neutral in Europe by 2050. Fossil fuel carbon capture and storage, where the current method of steel production is maintained but the carbon is then captured and stored or re-used rather than emitted into the atmosphere.

SRI developing process for co-gasification of methane and coal to produce liquid transportation fuels; negligible water consumption, no CO2

Green Car Congress

Researchers from SRI International (SRI) are developing a methane-and-coal-to-liquids process that consumes negligible amounts of water and does not generate carbon dioxide. In conventional CTL approaches, energy is supplied by burning a portion of the coal feed, which then produces carbon dioxide. Process flow diagram.
