Texas reinstates incentives for electric and alternative fuel cars

Chicago Transit Authority orders 20 Proterra electric buses for $32M

The Chicago Transit Board awarded a $32-million contract to Proterra for the purchase of 20 new, all-electric buses. The new electric buses will give the CTA one of the largest electric bus fleets in the country. CTA has been testing two electric buses since 2014, when the agency became the first in the country to use all-electric-powered buses for regular scheduled service. Both electric buses have performed well and handled Chicago’s weather and temperatures.

Ford hits CO2 manufacturing emissions reduction target of 30% per vehicle 8 years early

Ford Motor Company has met its goal to reduce manufacturing CO 2 emissions eight years ahead of schedule. The goal, set in 2010, aimed to reduce the company’s global carbon dioxide emissions from manufacturing operations by 30% per vehicle produced by 2025. S Korea to invest $2.3B in hydrogen fuel cell vehicle industrial ecosystem over next 5 years

The South Korean government and businesses will invest some 2.6 trillion won (US $2.33 billion) over the next five years in a public-private partnership to speed up the development of the country’s hydrogen fuel cell vehicle ecosystem, according to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). The target is to be able to install 310 hydrogen stations by 2022 to supply 16,000 fuel cell vehicles.

Stena Line introducing battery-electric operation to ferry; three stages up to 50 all-electric nautical miles

Stena Line, one of Europe’s leading ferry companies with 38 vessels and 21 routes in Northern Europe, is introducing battery power to its operations. Stena recently signed with Callenberg Technology Group for 1 MWh of batteries which will be installed on Stena Jutlandica which operates between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn. Stena envisions three phases to the project.

Southern California Edison proposes $760M Charge Ready 2 program to expand electric vehicle infrastructure

Two years ago, Southern California Edison launched Charge Ready, a pilot program to increase the availability of charging for passenger electric vehicles. After having recently installed Charge Ready’s 1,000 th EV charging station, SCE has filed a plan with the California Public Utilities Commission to expand the program to support the installation of 48,000 more charging ports. The proposed $760-million program would continue over four years.

Solaris to present new generation hydrogen bus

Solaris Bus & Coach has announced the Solaris Urbino 12 hydrogen, a new generation hydrogen fuel cell bus. The official premiere of the vehicle is slated for 2019. Energy needed to power the driveline of the Solaris Urbin 12 hydrogen will be obtained fromthe fuel cell; range on a single refueling will be more than 350 km (217 miles). Kroger and Nuro partner to pilot autonomous delivery

The Kroger Co. and startup Nuro are parterning to pilot an on-road, fully autonomous delivery experience. Through this partnership, customers will be able to place same-day delivery orders through Kroger’s ClickList ordering system and Nuro’s app. During the test, orders will be delivered by Nuro’s fleet of autonomous vehicles. This is the first application and deployment of Nuro’s hardware and software. The pilot market will be announced soon and is expected to begin this fall.

IIHS HLDI study finds Subaru crash avoidance system cuts pedestrian crashes

A recent analysis by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS) Highway Loss Data Institute (HLDI) found that Subaru’s EyeSight system ( earlier post ) cut the rate of likely pedestrian-related insurance claims by a statistically significant 35%. Nel ASA awarded multi-billion NOK contract for 448 electrolyzers (1 GW) by Nikola Motor

Mayor of London launches international study on effect of air pollution on children’s health: CHILL
