The findings suggest that developing nations are moving toward cleaner power but not nearly fast enough to limit global CO 2 emissions. The decline was not confined to China, however.

California’s action finalizing the Advanced Clean Cars II regulation last month unlocked New York's ability to adopt the same regulation. New pollutant standards for model year 2026 through model year 2034 passenger cars, light-duty trucks, and medium-duty vehicles with internal combustion engines would also be required.

According to a report by Smart Energy Decisions , there were more than one million electric vehicles (EVs) in commercial and government fleets in the United States as of 2021, up from just over 300,000 in 2019.
