Gevo to supply Lufthansa with alcohol-to-jet fuel (ATJ)

Gevo, Inc. has entered into a heads of agreement with Deutsche Lufthansa AG to supply Gevo’s alcohol-to-jet fuel (ATJ) from its first commercial hydrocarbons facility, intended to be built in Luverne, MN. The terms of the agreement contemplate Lufthansa purchasing up to 8 million gallons per year of ATJ from Gevo, or up to 40 million gallons over the 5 year life of the off-take agreement.

KLM to operate biofuel flights out of Los Angeles

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has signed a three-year contract for the supply of sustainable biofuel in Los Angeles. KLM will purchase sustainable biofuel for all its flights at this airport for a period of three years. The biofuel will be produced by the local biofuel refinery AltAir Fuels and supplied by SkyNRG. Los Angeles is the world’s second airport that has incorporated biofuel into its regular refueling process. The airport in Oslo, Norway, was first to do so in March this year.

Torotrak to present extreme engine downsizing solution at Dresden supercharging conference

At the 21 st Supercharging Conference in Dresden next week, Torotrak Group will present results from engine testing that verify previous claims for V-Charge, a variable drive mechanical supercharger. In comparison with the incumbent fixed-ratio positive-displacement supercharger on a 1.0L GTDI engine, V-Charge achieved improved BSFC (brake specific fuel consumption), better transient performance and a maximum BMEP (brake mean effective pressure) of 31 bar.

Apache confirms significant new resource play in Texas: 75 Tcf gas, 3B barrels of oil

Apache Corporation has confirmed the discovery of a significant new resource play—the “Alpine High”—in the southern portion of the Delaware Basin, primarily in Reeves County, Texas. Renault sells its 100,000th electric vehicle

Renault handed over the keys to its 100,000th electric car, a ZOE, in the Norwegian capital of Oslo on 9 September. Renault is the European electric car leader with 27% market share for electric private and utility vehicles. In the first half of 2016, Renault sold more than 15,000 electric vehicles (excluding the Twizy), an increase of 32% on the previous year. In France, half of all electric cars are Renaults. Renault’s main markets for electric cars are France, Norway, the UK, and Germany.

Porsche introducing new Panamera 4 E-hybrid PHEV at Paris Show

Porsche will unveil the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid with controlled all-wheel drive and an electric range of 50 kilometers (31 miles) at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. The plug-in hybrid will be the fourth model in the Panamera line. The vehicle generates some 340 kW (462 hp) of system power and delivers fuel consumption figures of 2.5 l/100 km (94 mpg) in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) for plug-in hybrid models. That corresponds to CO 2 emissions of 56 g/km.

Sales of SUVs grew from 5 million units in 2000 to 20 million in 2015 and are forecast to hit 42 million units by 2031.
