Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) has taken delivery of its first heavy-duty battery-electric vehicle, marking a step in the airport’s transition to a fully electric fleet. The Class 8 Nikola Tre battery-electric vehicle (BEV) semi-style tractor will be used to move paving equipment, transport construction materials and pull other heavy equipment at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) worksites.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) on Tuesday said it would buy only electric delivery vehicles from 2026 on, an about-face from the agency's original plan to continue with internal-combustion powertrains for most of its next-generation fleet. The USPS plans to acquire 106,000 vehicles between now and 2028, of which at least 66,000 vehicles.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finalized more stringent NO x emissions limits for model year 2027 and later heavy-duty engines and vehicles. Relative to current rules, the new standards are more than 80% stronger, increase useful life of governed vehicles by 1.5–2.5 times, and will yield emissions warranties that are 2.8–4.5 times longer.

European Lithium signed a binding long term lithium offtake agreement via its wholly-owned Austrian subsidiary ECM Lithium AT GmbH with BMW to secure the company’s first offtake of battery grade lithium hydroxide (LiOH) from its Wolfsberg Lithium Project underground mine in Austria. The United States Postal Service now expects to acquire at least 66,000 battery-electric delivery vehicles as part of its 106,000 vehicle acquisition plan for deliveries between now and 2028. The vehicles purchased as part of this anticipated plan will begin to replace the Postal Service’s aging delivery fleet of more than 220,000 vehicles.
