Graz researchers develop cost-effective chemical looping process for decentralized production of high-purity hydrogen

Green Car Congress

Hydrogen researchers at Graz University of Technology (Austria), together with the Graz-based start-up Rouge H2 Engineering , have developed a cost-effective process for the decentralized production of high-purity hydrogen using chemical looping. Hydrogen is produced by converting biogas, biomass or natural gas into a syngas.

Researchers develop large-scale, economical method to extract hydrogen from oil sands and oil fields

Green Car Congress

This can be used to power hydrogen-powered vehicles, which are already marketed in some countries, as well as to generate electricity. The researchers are presenting this work at the Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference in Barcelona this week. More than 95% of the world’s hydrogen comes from splitting natural gas, above ground, in SMRs.

Supreme Court curbs EPA authority to regulate CO2 from power plants

Green Car Congress

In devising emissions limits for power plants, EPA first “determines” the “best system of emission reduction” that—taking into account cost, health, and other factors—it finds “has been adequately demonstrated.” forcing a shift from higher-emitting to lower-emitting producers. 7411(a)(1). Study finds that dry-feed gasification for coal-to-liquids is more efficient, lower-emitting and cheaper than slurry-feed; CCS cost-effective for reduction of CO2

Green Car Congress

A co-production scenario—yet to be commercial—would take unconverted syngas from the FT reactor and combust it in a combined cycle power plant to generate electricity that is sold to the grid. Plant-level CO 2 emissions can be greatly reduced by using the CCS technology, the study found, without much increase in capital cost.
