Mercedes-Benz receives world’s first internationally valid system approval for Level 3 conditionally automated driving

Mercedes-Benz is the first automotive company to meet the demanding legal requirements of UN-R157 for a Level 3 system for conditionally automated driving. The German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has granted system approval for this on the basis of the technical approval regulation UN-R157 (UN Regulation No. 157 - Automated Lane Keeping Systems (ALKS)), thus paving the way for offering such a system internationally, provided that national legislation allows it.

Maersk unveils design of new methanol-fueled container ships

Maersk has introduced the design of its eight groundbreaking and industry-leading 16,000 TEU container vessels powered by carbon-neutral methanol. Unique to the industry, this design allows a 20% improved energy efficiency per transported container, when comparing to the industry average for vessels in this size. The entire series is expected to save around one million tons of annual CO 2 emissions, offering customers carbon-neutral transportation at scale on ocean trades.

CARB adopts “smog-check” regulation for heavy-duty trucks and buses

The California Air Resources Board approved a smog-check regulation for medium- and heavy-duty trucks and buses. While these heavy-duty vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) greater than 14,000 pounds comprise only 3% of all vehicles on California roads, they are responsible for more than 50% of nitrogen oxides and fine particle diesel pollution from all mobile sources in the state.

Report: Market for recycling used EV batteries won't heat up until 2030

A hearing for the proposed contract is scheduled for next Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. ET. .
