The Board of SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority) today approved the purchase of 525 40-foot, low-floor diesel-electric hybrid buses via a $411.8-million, five-year contract with New Flyer of America. SEPTA also has an option to purchase up to 25 additional buses. The new vehicles will allow SEPTA to continue the regular retirement and replacement of the oldest vehicles in its fleet with new, more energy-efficient hybrids.

Under the terms of the agreement, Sunoco will contribute its Philadelphia refinery assets to the joint venture in exchange for a non-operating minority interest. Phil Rinaldi, who has successfully led other refining and chemical business turnarounds, will serve as the CEO of Philadelphia Energy Solutions.

Nestlé Waters North America adds 155 new medium-duty propane autogas trucks to delivery fleet

Deployments in 2016 will include New York City, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Chicago, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Nestlé Waters North America is adding more than 150 medium-duty beverage delivery trucks fueled by propane autogas. Over the vehicles’ lifetime, the 155 Ford F-650 trucks will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 24.6 million pounds. These units will be deployed beginning in April.

PECO Expanding Fleet with NGVs & PHEVs

The NGVs will be used by PECO’s energy technicians in the Philadelphia suburbs. The vehicles cost more to buy when modified for CNG use, but the fuel costs significantly less than diesel or gasoline at 25% less per equivalent gallon, said Bill Flemming, PECO’s fleet manager and chairman of the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Coalition. With vehicles on the road 24/7, PECO’s fleet logs about 11 million miles of travel every year serving customers in the Greater Philadelphia region.
