First reference installation of Opcon Waste Heat Recovery technology for ships; potential for 5–10% fuel savings

Opcon, in collaboration with Wallenius Marine, recently completed the first reference installation of its Waste Heat Recovery technology for ocean-going vessels in a project supported by the Swedish Energy Agency. The Opcon systems generate electricity from low-value waste heat in the vessel’s steam and cooling system.

Brazil’s Nutec launches system to convert fish waste into oil for biodiesel feedstock

Brazil’s Industrial Technology Core Foundation of Ceará (Nutec), an entity linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education of the State (Secitece), launched Biopeixe Machine, which converts 50% of fish viscera into fats for the production of oil which will, in turn, be converted into biodiesel.

Goodyear unveils 90% sustainable-material demonstration tire, approved for road use

BTG and GoodFuels exploring options for joint investment to convert pyrolysis oil to low-carbon fuel for ships

Biomass technology group BTG plans to set up a new high-tech technology company that can convert crude pyrolysis oil into diesel fuel suitable for the shipping sector. It will be the first refinery in the world for an advanced marine biofuel based on pyrolysis oil. In 2019, Empyro was acquired by the waste processing company Twence.
