The EU formally approved a law that would ban the sale of combustion engine vehicles by 2035 in an attempt to accelerate consumers’ choice of electric powertrains. However, several car companies, including Volkswagen, have already committed to stop manufacturing gas-powered engines before the 2035 goal. I’d love to hear from you!

The increase in the fleet average new car CO 2 figure follows 19 years of reductions resulting from investment in new, advanced engine, fuel and battery technology, as well as the use of lightweight materials such as aluminium and composites. France has seen this higher level of market penetration in part due to the adoption of more affordable cars such as the Renault Zoe, which is soon to be followed by the Peugeot 208-e. However, in contrast to Toyota, the improvement made was due to the efficiency of its gasoline engines, rather than the adoption of electrified ones.
