Audi partnering with Climeworks on CO2 direct air capture and storage

Green Car Congress

The Swiss company Climeworks is building the world’s largest direct air capture (DAC) and storage facility for converting atmospheric CO 2 to rock in Iceland. Water from the Hellisheiði power plant then flows through the facility and transports the carbon dioxide roughly 2,000 meters below the surface of the Earth.

Duke team develops new core-shell copper nanowire catalyst for efficient water oxidation for solar fuels

Green Car Congress

A transparent film of copper nanowires was transformed into an electrocatalyst for water oxidation by electrodeposition of Ni or Co onto the surface of the nanowires. Water oxidation (2H 2 O → O 2 + 4 e- + 4H + ) is a key step for converting solar energy into chemical fuels. Chen et al. Click to enlarge. times more light.

Siluria Technologies announces successful start-up of first demo plant directly converting natural gas to ethylene through OCM

Green Car Congress

Siluria’s OCM technology is the first commercially viable process to directly convert natural gas to ethylene, a key building block for the global petrochemicals industry and a new basis from which to produce transportation fuels. The oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) converts methane into ethane and ethylene (C 2 hydrocarbons).

MIT team develops lower cost method to synthesize gamma-valerolactone for biofuels and chemicals

Green Car Congress

The new MIT proces converts furfural into GVL via a series of cascading (domino-like) reactions catalyzed by zeolites with Lewis and Brønsted acid sites. Using the traditional GVL manufacturing method, cellulose and hemicellulose are converted into levulinic acid, which has a chain of five carbon atoms. Credit: Bui et al.
