Wrightbus to Design and Build New Bus for London; Delivery Targeted for 2011

Transport for London (TfL) has selected Wrightbus as the preferred manufacturer for the final design and build of the New Bus for London, based on the iconic Routemaster. The original double-decker AEC Routemaster buses were produced until 1968, and saw continuous service in London until 2005. Design by Capoco Design Ltd, UK.

LSBU researchers investigating metal hydride hydrogen storage for buses

Researchers from London South Bank University (LSBU), School of the Built Environment and Architecture, are investigating the use of metal hydrides to absorb, release and store hydrogen for fuel cell buses. DfT Green Bus funding to support 70 more hybrid buses in London

Newly announced funding from the UK Department for Transportation’s Green Bus Fund will support the deployment of 70 more hybrid buses in London with a £5 million award. At least 400 hybrid buses are now expected to be in service in London by the end of March 2013. There are currently more than 260 hybrid buses operating in London.

Cycling along Londons Barclays Cycle Superhighways showing significant increase

The Barclays Cycle Superhighways are 12 radial routes aimed at making it safer and easier to commute by bike between outer and inner London on direct and continuous cycle routes. The next two Barclays Cycle Superhighways routes will run from Bow to Aldgate (CS2) and Wandsworth to Westminster (CS8) and will launch in summer 2011.

Copper prices rise to 10-year high, near record

The price of copper on the London Metal Exchange (LME) rose to $9,990/t on 29 April, marking a ten-year high and closing in on the record high LME price of $10,147.50/t t on 14 February 2011. Roskill also noted that world visible stocks saw a seasonal rise to 881kt by 23 April 2021.
