MECA emissions inventory & air quality modeling shows potential benefits of national cleaner trucks initiative at CARB limits

On 6 March 2020, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) proposed to set an intermediate FTP NO x emissions limit of 50 mg/bhp-hr in model years 2024-2026 with a final FTP standard of 20 mg/bhp-hr in 2027, representing a 90% reduction below today’s standard of 200 mg/bhp-hr. EPA to develop options to reduce NOx and PM from locomotives further

In that 1998 rule, EPA adopted three tiers of emission standards: Tier 0, Tier 1, and Tier 2. The Tier 2 standards began phasing in for new locomotives and engines built in 2005. In 2008, EPA promulgated regulations addressing air pollutant emissions from locomotives.

EPA providing up to $3M in funding to reduce diesel emissions from school buses

EPA has implemented standards that require diesel engines to be more than 90% cleaner, but many older diesel school buses remain in operation and predate these standards. Since 2008, the DERA program has funded mor than 500 clean diesel projects across the country.

Hyundai scrappage scheme in UK offers up to £5,000 off price of new model

Running from 1 September 2017, Hyundai’s scheme targets older and more polluting vehicles with Euro 1-4 emissions standard, cars which were registered before 31 December 2009. Back in 2008, the company was the first to introduce a scheme which ran from April 2009 to March 2010. i10 will also benefit from £1,500 saving.

California ARB moves forward with climate and air quality actions

CARB approved the State Strategy for the State Implementation Plan ( State SIP Strategy ), which describes CARB’s commitment for further reducing vehicle emissions needed to meet federal air quality standards over the next 15 years. The Board also approved the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s comprehensive air quality plan.
