Falling energy costs in the UK have led to a sharp drop in inflation, but electricity bills in the UK are still among the highest in Europe. c€/kWh in London in the index, which compared prices in capital cities across Europe.

Transport for London (TfL) has ordered 20 hydrogen double-decker buses as part of its drive to make London’s transport zero-emission. To encourage the take-up of this technology in other cities in the UK and Europe, TfL is leading procurement within the ‘Joint Initiative for hydrogen Vehicles across Europe’ (JIVE) project.

Starting this Wednesday, Tesla’s electric cars will be available for Uber drivers in London who are looking to purchase or lease a sustainable vehicle. It should be noted that over 4,000 Uber drivers have already switched over to electric vehicles in London. Uber is ushering in an electric vehicle adoption wave among its drivers.

DriveNow, the carsharing joint venture between the BMW Group and Sixt SE ( earlier post ), has launched its flexible carsharing service in London. DriveNow furthermore intends to add 30 all-electric BMW i3 cars to the London fleet in spring 2015, expanding it to a total of 300 vehicles during the course of next year.

Agrimoney reports that the UK’s Ensus wheat ethanol plant, the largest such in Europe, will temporarily shut down in what it believes to be a response to high wheat prices. Wheat prices hit a record £222 (US$360) per tonne on the London futures market last month Ensus has not confirmed or denied the report.

The Board of Transport for London (TfL) approved a production order for up to 600 of New Bus for London vehicles over the next four years. This will create the largest fleet of hybrid buses in Europe, according to TfL. The introduction of the 600 buses will reduce CO 2 emissions in London by around 20,600 tonnes a year.
