Each of the four centers, led by a National Laboratory or University, support the science behind a bio-based economy and aims to break down the barriers to building a strong domestic bioenergy industry.

H2@Scale project launched in Texas; renewable hydrogen for multiple end-use applications

Cepsa to invest €3B in Andalusia to build the largest green hydrogen hub in Europe; additional €2B for renewable power

To generate the renewable electricity needed to feed production of green hydrogen, Cepsa will develop a 3GW portfolio of wind and solar energy projects with an additional €2-billion investment. It also expects Spain to become a net exporter of renewable hydrogen. Of these, 1,000 will be direct employment opportunities.

Topsoe to lead FrontFuel project for SAF from CO2 and renewable electricity; DKK 26.9M grant

Topsoe will lead the FrontFuel project to develop highly efficient Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production from CO 2 , water, and renewable electricity. The FrontFuel project will use carbon dioxide and renewable energy to produce a synthetic crude, to demonstrate the value chain of SAF, using Topsoe technology.

Engineered E. coli could make carbohydrates, renewable fuel, from CO2

Researchers from Newcastle University in the UK have engineered Escherichia coli bacteria to capture carbon dioxide using hydrogen gas to convert it into formic acid. The investigators used a special pressurized bioreactor filled with H 2 and CO 2 to make the gases available to the microbes. —principal investigator Frank Sargent.
