The state has also said that it’s aiming to get one million zero-emission vehicles on its roads by 2030, along with its plan to eliminate greenhouse gas pollution entirely by 2050. Instead of prohibiting gas car sales, the state says it hopes to direct consumers toward some of its grants and other programs making EVs easier to access.

The funding model for the grant will use a sliding scale based on a fixed value (the “efficiency value”) per gram of Well-To-Wheel carbon dioxide equivalent per kilometer (£ per gCO 2 e/km) saved (the “base grant”). This is a technology–neutral program; gas buses are eligible if they meet the tougher assessment criteria.
