Denmark leads the way when it comes to putting zero-emission urban buses on the streets in Europe, with 78% of new vehicles being electric, according to the latest data from green NGO Transport & Environment. In Luxembourg and the Netherlands about two-thirds of new buses were zero-emissions.

New research from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, finds that the discharge water from ships’ exhaust gas treatment systems—i.e., scrubbers—is responsible for up to 9% of certain emissions of carcinogenic and environmentally harmful substances in the Baltic Sea—considerably more than was previously known.

If a ban were introduced on the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars, and they were replaced by electric cars, the result would be a significant reduction in lifecycle carbon dioxide emissions primarily due to reduced tailpipe CO 2 emissions, according to a new lifecycle study by researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.

Volvo Trucks has delivered an electric truck for heavy transport to a haulier in Gothenburg, Sweden. Mattsson Åkeri in Gothenburg, Sweden is one of them, and the company has now bought three heavy electric Volvo FH trucks from Volvo. We charge with green electricity and thus get no CO2 emissions.

Scandinavian transport operator Nobina has ordered 60 Volvo high-capacity electric buses which will enter service in Malmö, Sweden next year. In a short space of time we have taken orders for 220 electric buses from two of Sweden’s largest cities. —Henrik Dagnäs, MD at Nobina Sweden.
