ARB study compares in-use NOx emissions from diesel, hydraulic hybrid diesel and LNG refuse trucks

Deutsche Post and Ford to manufacture Transit-based electric delivery van

Deutsche Post subsidiary StreetScooter GmbH ( earlier post ) and Ford-Werke GmbH are entering a partnership for the manufacturing of battery-electric delivery vehicles. StreetScooter, a start-up spun out of German technical university RWTH Aachen, has already developed a small electric van; the StreetScooter van is powered by a 20.4 kWh Li-ion battery pack and propelled by a 30 kW motor. Top speed is 80 km/h (50 mph).

California Energy Commission awards $17M to expand hydrogen refueling infrastructure

During its latest business meeting, the California Energy Commission approved more than than $17 million was approved for nine new hydrogen stations that will expand the refueling infrastructure network in California. FirstElement Fuel, Inc. will develop eight hydrogen refueling stations. Five of those will be located in Southern California: in Huntington Beach, Irvine, San Diego, Santa Monica, and Sherman Oaks.

Tsinghua team develops bio-inspired self-healing sulfur electrodes; almost no capacity decay after 2000 cycles

By mimicking fibrinolysis, a biological self-healing process, researchers at China’s Tsinghua University have developed a self-healing sulfur microparticle (SMiP) cathode. In a paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society , the researchers report that the SMiP cathode attained an optimized capacity (∼3.7 mAh cm −2 ), with almost no decay after 2,000 cycles at a high sulfur loading of 5.6 mg (S) cm −2.

DOE awarding up to $12M for projects to advance wave energy

European EAGLE project to develop gasoline engine with 50% peak efficiency; Renault to manufacture prototype

Audi first to demo automated vehicle in NY; Level 3 Highway Pilot

GM has built 130 Bolt EVs with next-generation autonomous technology

Most current bio-jet fuels consist primarily of linear or branched chain alkanes; they suffer from low densities (~0.76 g/mL) and low volumetric heating values compared with those of petro-jet fuels. Molybdenum coating improves the efficiency of water-splitting catalysts for producing hydrogen

Researchers at KAUST have developed a novel molybdenum-coated catalyst that can efficiently split water in acidic electrolytes and that could help with the efficient production of hydrogen. Scientists are searching for ways of improving the water-splitting reaction by developing an optimal catalyst. A team from Nanjing University in China, using a titanium nitride (TiN) nanotube array as the substrate, has synthesized a high-performance composite tin anode (TiN@Sn) for Li-ion batteries. The structured electrode delivers a capacity of 795 mAh g Sn −1 (Sn basis) and 1812 mAh cm el -3 (electrode basis). The long-term cycling shows only 0.04% capacity decay per cycle. Gotheburg expands ElectriCity with two more electric buses, other electric heavy-duty vehicles

LA, Long Beach mayors commit to move ports to zero emissions
