'Mercedes-Benz is making a strategic push on plug-in hybrids: the Stuttgart-based automaker will introduce 10 new plug-in hybrid models by 2017. 'Siemens researchers have developed a new electric motor that, with a weight of just 50 kilograms (110 lbs), delivers a continuous output of about 260 kW—five times more than comparable drive systems. The motor was specially designed for use in aircraft. Due to its record-setting power-to-weight ratio, larger aircraft with takeoff weights of up to two tons will now be able to use electric drives for the first time, Siemens said.

'Researchers at NYU Langone Medical Center have linked fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) pollution to a dangerous narrowing of neck arteries that occurs prior to strokes. The scientists analyzed medical test records for more than 300,000 people living in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut.
