Toyota on Friday announced plans to greatly increase the electric range of its future plug-in hybrids, develop next-generation EVs with double the range, and expand hybrid sales to emerging markets. In an update on the company’s direction, Toyota’s executive vice president in charge of product, Hiroki Nakajima, said that plug-in.

By Jake Stones, hydrogen editor at ICIS ICIS data shows that renewable hydrogen could be sold for below €1/kg if a producer obtains the maximum support provided by the European Hydrogen Bank , according to the heads of terms for the bank published by the European Commission on 31 March. The bank, which was announced in September 2022, aims to support hydrogen producers using an auction bidding system, which ranks bidders according to price per kilo of hydrogen.

In a presentation to investors this week, Kia announced plans to boost its EV sales targets and launch a purpose-built robotaxi. The automaker said it's now targeting sales of 1.6 million EVs annually by 2030—up from the previous 1.2 million annually by 2030 announced just last year. Kia also plans to have 15 EV models in its global lineup.

The first generation of the MINI Countryman was a success for MINI, and from 2010 it expanded the model family to include a compact SUV vehicle with all-wheel drive, five doors and—for the first time in a MINI model—more than four meters in length. In the first generation, the trunk can be flexibly expanded from 370 liters to up to 1,170 liters with the sliding and folding rear seat.

Lyft is expanding its Green mode, which allows riders to specify an EV or hybrid, to additional cities beginning April 17. "We've seen an explosion of interest in EVs—and once a driver or rider gets into an EV, they're more likely to prefer them moving forward," Paul Augustine, Lyft director of sustainability, said in a company blog post.

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) is calling on the EPA to consider EV efficiency in its upcoming GHG standards for cars. In an analysis posted on the organization’s website, the ACEEE shows that a small increase in EV efficiency in a future with all light-duty vehicles electrified would save 970,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity—equivalent to the electricity consumption of 21 million US homes.

Tesla will have a new Yoke steering wheel with “improved materials” coming in July 2023, a Service Advisor said. “A new yoke with improved materials will be available to service in July 2023,” a Tesla Service advisor said to Reddit user u/Global_Chaos. “We do not recommend replacing the Yoke until improved parts are available.” Interestingly, this comes just weeks after Tesla started offering a retrofit round steering wheel kit for the Yoke for $700 on its web

It took some time, but it appears that Tesla is finally at a point where its 4680 battery cell production is at a level where it can support the orders and production of a Model Y variant. This was hinted at recently by Tesla when the company added the Model Y Dual Motor AWD to its design studio in the United States. As could be seen in the Model Y AWD’s configurator , the vehicle is priced at $49,990 before incentives.

Global plugin vehicle registrations were up 49% in February 2023 compared to February 2022. There were 812,000 registrations, representing 14% share (9.7% BEV share) of the overall auto market. This means that the global automotive market is in the Electric Disruption Zone. Year to date, the market share is now at 13% (8.7% BEV).
