Coca-Cola Canada Bottling Limited is acquiring six Volvo VNR Electric trucks, as part of a pilot program to service its customer delivery routes throughout the Greater Montreal Area. The six trucks are the first Class 8 battery-electric trucks in the beverage distributor’s fleet of 650 heavy-duty vehicles to service customers throughout the region. Coke Canada Bottling is the first Canadian food and beverage manufacturer to use zero-tailpipe emission trucks and all six Volvo VNR Electric trucks

Chinese automaker Geely's Zeekr brand this week unveiled its third model, a nearly Tesla Model Y-sized crossover that will sell for less than $30,000 in its home market. The Zeekr X follows the 009 van and the 001, a hatchback based on a concept originally badged for Geely's Lynk & Co. brand, in the all-electric Zeekr brand's lineup.

StoreDot claims its fast-charging battery tech will allow automakers to design EVs with smaller battery packs—saving cost and weight. The argument seems to be that, by enabling what the company calls "extreme fast charging," allowing more frequent recharges with less inconvenience, automakers won't need to rely as much on larger battery.

bp has successfully started oil production at its Argos offshore platform, strengthening bp’s position as a leading producer in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. ( Earlier post.) The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its 30 th annual Inventory of US Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks (GHG Inventory), which presents a national-level overview of annual greenhouse gas emissions from 1990 to 2021. In 2021, US greenhouse gas emissions totaled 6,340.2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents, or 5,586.0 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents after accounting for sequestration from the land sector—representing a 6% increase from 2020.

The Tesla Cybertruck was recently spotted at Gigafactory Texas while it was seemingly undergoing wind tunnel tests. But while the tests themselves were quite interesting, footage of the upcoming all-electric pickup truck also showed something new — the Cybertruck “mega wiper” in action. When the Cybertruck was initially unveiled in late 2019, the hulking prototype of the all-electric pickup truck featured no wipers at all.

Euro Manganese has produced high-purity electrolytic manganese metal (HPEMM) from its demonstration plant at the Chvaletice Project in the Czech Republic. ( Earlier post.) An external laboratory has confirmed the first HPEMM sent for testing has met the target specifications and was at 99.9% Mn metal purity. High-purity manganese sulphate (HPMSM) is now under production in the final module and will be sent for external laboratory testing in due course.

Tesla continues to test Model 3 Highland candidates in California, just days after the first images of the alleged vehicle were shared. Tesla started preparing for a Model 3 “Refresh” in mid-2022 , and since then, the company has continued to prepare for production at Fremont. There have been a few reports indicating what the automaker places to update on the vehicle, and with the continuous sightings, we are getting more of an idea of what Tesla plans to change.

International defense company Babcock International has been awarded a one-year contract by the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) to help the British Army understand the applications and constraints of electric propulsion. Partnering with UK electric vehicle (EV) conversion experts, Electrogenic , Babcock will convert four in-service military Land Rovers, two protected vehicles and two general service, from diesel-fueled to EV using a drop-in kit and modified battery system.

The Tesla Semi is already being delivered to customers, but a lot of information about the production version of the all-electric Class 8 long-hauler is still under wraps. Following the delivery of more Tesla Semi units to PepsiCo earlier this week, however, some details about the vehicle were shared. Renault Group and Verkor , a European manufacturer of low-carbon batteries ( earlier post ), have entered a long-term commercial partnership for the supply of batteries for electric vehicles. Verkor will supply Renault Group with the equivalent of 12 GWh of batteries each year. These batteries will be used in the upper segments of Renault Group’s brands, starting with the future Alpine 100% electric C-Crossover GT, manufactured in Dieppe, France, from 2025.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) issued a $16-million lab call ( DE-LC-0000027 ) for proposals to strengthen domestic capabilities in solid-state and flow battery manufacturing. The lab call requires collaboration between DOE National Laboratories and industry partners to accelerate the path from innovation to battery manufacturing scale-up and commercialization.

Last month, 13-time Tesla owner and early TSLA investor Matthew Donegan-Ryan shared a rather interesting tidbit about the Cybertruck’s production version. According to the longtime TSLA investor, the all-electric pickup truck will be fitted with a frunk that’s unlike any other in Tesla’s existing lineup. A recently shared image has seemingly confirmed this statement.

The technology group ZF will, from 2025, purchase silicon carbide (SiC) devices from STMicroelectronics. Under the terms of the multi-year contract, ST will supply a volume of double-digit millions of silicon carbide devices to be integrated in ZF’s new modular inverter architecture going into series production in 2025. ZF will leverage ST’s vertically integrated silicon carbide manufacturing in Europe and Asia to secure customer orders in electromobility.
