Norwegian startup Blastr Green Steel is planning to establish a green steel plant with an integrated hydrogen production facility in Inkoo, Finland. Blastr has entered into a Letter of Intent with Nordic energy company Fortum that provides Blastr exclusive rights to utilize the existing industrial site located in Joddböle, Inkoo in Finland, 55 km west of Helsinki.

As it prepares to launch a global lineup of electric cars and trucks, Stellantis is also planning to build a very different kind of electric vehicle. At CES in Las Vegas, the automaker announced that it will build the Archer Midnight electric aircraft, as well as provide $150 million in funding to California-based Archer Aviation in 2023 and 2024.

Stellantis and Archer Aviation have agreed to expand their partnership by joining forces to manufacture Archer’s flagship electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, Midnight. Stellantis will work with Archer to stand up Archer’s recently announced manufacturing facility in Covington, Georgia at which the companies plan to begin manufacturing the Midnight aircraft in 2024.

In the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept revealed Thursday at CES, Stellantis’ Ram truck brand showed how it plans to deliver an electric truck in 2024. Put simply, it plans to carry on the competition that it’s waged against the Ford F-150 family, plus Chevy, GMC, and Toyota full-size trucks, translated into a new era of fully electric.

NFI Group subsidiary New Flyer Industries Canada ULC has received new firm orders for 16 battery-electric and fuel cell-electric transit buses from Winnipeg Transit. The contract also has options to be extended for up to four years to purchase up to 150 40-foot zero-emission buses (ZEBs). In total, NFI will add up to 166 buses (or 174 Equivalent Units, EUs) to its backlog from firm and option orders.

Consumers are showing more interest in electric cars, but cost concerns are a critical barrier to further adoption, according to a new study. In its 2023 Global Automotive Consumer Study, consultancy Deloitte found that most Americans don't feel ready for an EV. Just 8% of survey respondents said an EV was the preferred choice for their next.

Stellantis’ Ram brand has been hinting for several years that while there may be a fully electric truck in the future, it sees a plug-in hybrid truck as part of the plan, too. With the debut of the Ram 1500 Revolution Concept at CES on Thursday, and the confirmation that a production version will bow within months and be delivered in 2024.

Vopak and Hydrogenious LOHC Technologies will incorporate an equal shared joint venture, named LOHC Logistix, for hydrogen storage, transport and supply based on Hydrogenious’ Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carrier (LOHC) technology. At CES 2023, ZF anniunced a new multi-domain capable edition of the ZF ProAI ( earlier post ) high-performance computer. One device can support domain-based ADAS, infotainment or chassis functions on separate boards. This includes system-on-chip configurations from multiple suppliers. It is even capable of hosting multiple operating systems in parallel, e.g., QNX for ADAS functions and Android Auto for infotainment.

Canada Nickel Company announced that its latest test work results support the incorporation of carbon capture and storage into the Crawford Project.The company’s In-Process Tailings (IPT) Carbonation process is a novel method for accelerated carbon capture and storage. The latest test work confirms that existing process streams can be utilized for IPT Carbonation which the Company believes should allow it to be engineered and incorporated into the flowsheet in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Russia-based Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel)—the world’s largest nickel producer—is studying the potential for mining tailings to capture and store CO 2. The dompany is also working to develop a methodology to take stock of carbon units captured this way. In 2021, Nornickel extracted 41.2 mt of ore. Ore mining and concentration results in waste rock, or tailings—fine-grained rock (less than 0.4 mm) that looks like sand.

The new Supercharger station in Kliplev features 24 V3 Superchargers capable of speeds up to 250 kW. It’s reportedly close in exterior design to the production model we’ll see within months. Ram Trucks, the US truck arm of global automaker Stellantis , took the wraps off what it called the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept truck on Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The production version of this fully electric, full-size pickup truck will be revealed within months, with sales to start during 2024, most likely in the second half of the year.
