PNNL team develops new low-cost method to convert captured CO2 to methane

Green Car Congress

By using a water-lean post-combustion capture solvent, (N-(2-ethoxyethyl)-3-morpholinopropan-1-amine) (2-EEMPA), they achieved a greater than 90% conversion of captured CO 2 to hydrocarbons—mostly methane—in the presence of a heterogenous Ru catalyst under relatively mild reaction conditions (170 °C and 2 pressure).

Lux Research: cost of electrofuels remains far from viable

Green Car Congress

Production costs per barrel of oil equivalent. The cost of electrofuels—fuels produced by catalyst-based systems for light capture, water electrolysis, and catalytic conversion of carbon dioxide and hydrogen to liquid fuels—remains far away from viable, according to a new analysis by Lux Research.

ICCT study finds hydrotreating an inexpensive approach to remove naphthalenes from petroleum jet fuel for contrail abatement

Green Car Congress

The report estimates an incremental cost of 0.09 L) to hydrotreat fossil jet fuel at the conversion refineries that produce the bulk of aviation jet fuel worldwide. Aircraft consume fuels and emit a range of emissions, including carbon dioxide and water vapor in the form of condensation trails (contrails). USD/gallon (~€0.03/L)

DOE to award $118M to 17 projects to accelerate domestic biofuel production

Green Car Congress

This project will demonstrate the conversion of gaseous carbon wood wastes (terpenes) to renewable Terpenes SAF blending components. The advanced cultivation will be operated for 12 months to demonstrate the efficacy of the process and generate key performance parameters to validate the projected minimum fuel selling price of $2.50/gallon

Raven SR & Hyzon Motors to build up to 100 waste-to-hydrogen hubs

Green Car Congress

This permits the control of the rotary reformer when there is water content or chemical makeup variation in the feedstock, such as in MSW. In California, it is expected that the projects will have a carbon emissions profile that will generate high LCFS credits, allowing Hyzon to operate vehicles at very competitive prices.
