Researchers develop large-scale, economical method to extract hydrogen from oil sands and oil fields

Green Car Congress

This can be used to power hydrogen-powered vehicles, which are already marketed in some countries, as well as to generate electricity. The researchers are presenting this work at the Goldschmidt Geochemistry Conference in Barcelona this week. More than 95% of the world’s hydrogen comes from splitting natural gas, above ground, in SMRs.

France launches new climate plan; Euro 7 lead; targeting ending the sale of vehicles emitting GHGs by 2040

Green Car Congress

Nicolas Hulot, France’s new minister responsible for environment and energy, presented the country’s new climate plan at a press conference at the Ministry. The plan at this current level of detail does not specify whether or not that is tailpipe emissions or full lifecycle emissions, factoring in upstream for electric vehicles.)

Bosch study highlights potential of e-fuels to reduce CO2 emissions

Green Car Congress

If the climate targets set by the Paris conference are to be achieved, CO 2 emissions from traffic worldwide will have to be reduced 50% over the next four decades, and by at least 85% in the advanced economies, Bosch notes. Even if all cars were to drive electrically one day, aircraft, ships, and even trucks will still run mainly on fuel.

PNNL solar thermochemical reaction system can reduce fuel consumption in natural gas power plants by about 20%; future potential for transportation fuels

Green Car Congress

A new concentrating solar power system developed by Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) can reduce the fuel consumption of a modified natural-gas combined-cycle (NGCC) power plant by about 20%. The power plant then combusts the more energy dense syngas to produce electricity. The full CSP system. Photo: PNNL. Click to enlarge.
