Rivian plans to convert the Starfire Mine in Kentucky to a solar energy center. The Starfire Mine, Kentucky, was once one of the largest coal mines in the United States. It will be one of Kentucky’s largest renewable power projects once converted. The conversion is estimated to be a $1 billion solar project.

UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, has landed its third technology license for its methanol-to-olefins (MTO) technology, which converts methanol from coal into key plastics building blocks. China is the world’s largest producer of coal, accounting for nearly half of global production, according to the US Energy Information Administration.

The Hydrogen Energy Supply Chain ( HESC ) project will convert brown coal from the AGL Loy Yang mine into hydrogen at an adjacent site and then transport the gas by road in high pressure tube trailers to a liquefaction terminal at the Port of Hastings. J-Power will use its gasification technology for gasification of brown coal.
