Electric vs. Gasoline Cars: Uncovering the Real Climate Savior

The Truth About Cars

As more renewable energy sources are integrated into the power grid, the overall greenhouse gas emissions associated with EVs can be further reduced. This tool allows users to select specific EV or PHEV models and input their zip code to compare the CO2 emissions from these vehicles with those from gasoline cars.

Mitsubishi bringing 2018 Outlander PHEV to US in December

Green Car Congress

Mitsubishi is bringing the plug-in hybrid crossover Outlander (the best-selling PHEV in Europe) to the US. The 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) will arrive in dealerships in December 2017 with an MSRP of $34,595. It is also the only PHEV with DC Fast Charging capability (CHAdeMO).

Deloitte: interest in hybrid vehicles still significantly outpacing full battery-electrics

Green Car Congress

As global automakers look to make good on their promises of an electrified future, consumer interest in adopting more sustainable powertrains is driven by reduced fuel costs, climate concerns and better driving experiences. Meanwhile, consumers in India, China and Southeast Asia plan to use both the regular grid and renewable power.

ICCT LCA study finds only battery and hydrogen fuel-cell EVs have potential to be very low-GHG passenger vehicle pathways

Green Car Congress

This is especially important for assessing the GHG emissions of PHEVs. Natural gas does not offer climate benefits compared to gasoline and diesel, and many biofuel pathways do not, either. Importantly, battery EVs can be expected to operate with progressively fewer upstream emissions over their lifetimes as electricity grids “green.”

MIT, Ford researchers find lightweight conventional vehicles could have lower lifecycle GHG impact than EVs depending upon location

Green Car Congress

Regional differences in climate, electric grid burdens, and driving patterns compound to produce significant regional heterogeneity in the GHG benefits of electrification. It’s Just Got To Be BEV

CleanTechnica EVs

Only 100% battery electric vehicles (BEVs) have the potential to create the deep cuts in greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector that the world needs to avoid catastrophic climate change. BEVs will become more efficacious as the grid gets greener around the globe. Hybrids […].
