Leading UK scientists set out resource challenge of meeting EV targets by 2050

Green Car Congress

Last month, the Committee on Climate Change published a report— Net Zero: The UK’s Contribution to Stopping Global Warming —which concluded that “net zero is necessary, feasible and cost effective.” If CdTe-type photovoltaic power is used, that would consume over thirty years of current annual tellurium supply.

Study finds wind concentrates pollutants with unexpected order in an urban environment

Green Car Congress

Cities—with their canyons, isolated greenery, and congested traffic—create seemingly chaotic and often powerful wind patterns known as urban flows. It was not known if such structures were robust enough to manifest in the environment. —Wenbo Tang of Arizona State University, lead author.

Stanford study finds current carbon capture technology inefficient & increases air pollution

Green Car Congress

Even if you have 100 percent capture from the capture equipment, it is still worse, from a social cost perspective, than replacing a coal or gas plant with a wind farm because carbon capture never reduces air pollution and always has a capture equipment cost. Only when wind replaced coal itself did social costs decrease.

Two-year study in Canada finds large trucks disproportionately contribute to higher levels of black carbon pollution

Green Car Congress

This was in part due to differences in wind and proximity to the road but, surprisingly, the number of vehicles didn’t make that much of a difference. Research consistently links traffic emissions to negative effects on both the environment and human health. The study is published in the ACS journal Environmental Science & Technology.
