With just three Hydrogen refuelling station in the UK, convincing motorists to purchase a Hydrogen powered car was always going to be tough. Hydrogen-powered cars use hydrogen fuel cells to make electricity, emitting only water. BMW and Mercedes played with Hydrogen and no longer offer any products. Who can blame them.

BEVs saw a modest trimming of support, but PHEVs had their ecobonus support cut entirely, amounting to a roughly 4,000€ effective increase in purchase cost for consumers. April also didn’t see any fast-ramp-up growth stories from newer BEV models, with cars like the BYD Atto 3, and Smart #1 mainly just treading water (for now at least).

Purchase bonuses for PHEVs were always a perverse incentive, and for some cynical buyers, replaced the more fundamental economic incentive of actually plugging them in to save on fuel costs.
