ŠKODA AUTO has started manufacturing battery systems for all-electric vehicles based on the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) in Mladá Boleslav. This makes the car manufacturer’s main plant the only production facility for MEB battery systems in Europe outside Germany.

Volvo Buses is participating in a research project in which used electric bus batteries are used as solar energy storage units. Batteries from electric bus route 55 in Gothenburg, Sweden are being used for solar energy storage in a second-life application. The battery warehouse consists of 14 used lithium-ion electric bus batteries.

Design specs for the Gramme 50 include a production rate of 30~50 Nm 3 /hr with a power consumption range of 5~7 kWh/Nm or 150~350 kW. These efforts could help drive down hydrogen production costs.
