Potent GHG SF6 rapidly accumulating in atmosphere, driven by demand for SF6-insulated switchgear in developing countries

Green Car Congress

In practical terms, this high GWP means that 1 t of SF 6 released to the atmosphere is equivalent to the release of 23,500t of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ). Of all the greenhouse gases regulated under the Kyoto Protocol, SF 6 is the most potent, with a global warming potential (GWP) of 23,500 over a 100-year time horizon.
