Companies are installing fuel cells to generate onsite primary or backup power to buildings, data centers and cell phone towers, because of their high reliability and low emissions. To date, close to 700 fuel cells have been deployed to provide backup power with $18.5 million in Recovery Act funding.

The BuG ReMeDEE consortium includes industrial partners LanzaTech (US) and Bijson Innovations Pvt. This, the deepest mine in North America, began filling with water following its closure in 2002. As momentum built to turn the mine into an underground lab, pumps were installed to dewater the flooded shafts and tunnels.
