GM applying new intake valve lift control technology in 2.5L Ecotec for 2014 Impala; up to 1 mpg fuel economy boost

GM is applying a new advanced valvetrain technology on the Ecotec 2.5L GM estimates the fuel savings at up to one mile per gallon, according to Mike Anderson, GM global chief engineer for Ecotec engines. Variable Displacement Oil Pump in Chevrolet Cruze Aids Fuel Conservation

One of many Cruze incremental engine technologies to improve fuel efficiency is the variable displacement oil pump. The pump body pivots (blue lines) causing the vanes (red lines) to move resulting in just the right volume of oil being pumped. When less oil is pumped less energy is needed which ultimately saves fuel.
