A group of researchers from China and Japan has identified a key inhibitor to hydrogen desorption in magnesium hydride (MgH 2 ) solid-state hydrogen storage materials. Details of their findings were published in the Journal of Materials Chemistry A. Currently, hydrogen is stored by three methods: high-pressure gaseous hydrogen storage; low-temperature liquid hydrogen storage; and solid-state hydrogen storage.

Cornell engineers have developed machine learning models to simplify and reinforce models to calculate the fine particulate matter (PM 2.5 ) contained in urban air pollution. Sweden-based international mining and minerals group LKAB has identified significant deposits of rare earth elements in the Kiruna area in the far north of Swedish Lapland (some 200 km north of the Arctic Circle). Following successful exploration, the company is reporting mineral resources of rare earth metals in the Per Geijer deposit exceeding one million tonnes of rare earth oxides—the largest known deposit of its kind in Europe.
