Steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs has set a target to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2030. Cleveland-Cliffs is the largest flat-rolled steel producer in North America. In 2020, Cleveland-Cliffs acquired two major steelmakers, AK Steel Corporation and ArcelorMittal USA LLC, vertically integrating its legacy iron ore business with quality-focused steel production and emphasis on the automotive end market.

Cleveland Schools replacing 49 diesel buses with propane

Cleveland Schools, Ohio’s second largest school district, is replacing 49 12-to-13-year-old diesel buses with Blue Bird’s Propane Vision buses. A short return on investment, the ease of fueling, the low infrastructure cost and the unexpected benefit of lower electricity costs were reasons cited by the school district for the purchase of the propane autogas buses.

Gevo’s ATJ is manufactured at its demonstration biorefinery located in Silsbee, TX, using renewable isobutanol produced at its Luverne, MN, isobutanol plant. The biorefinery, where Gevo also produces bio-paraxylene and bio-isooctane, is operated in conjunction with South Hampton Resources.

NASA awarding $45M to green rocket propellant technology demonstration mission

NASA has selected a team led by Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corporation of Boulder, Colo., for a technology demonstration of a high performance “green” propellant alternative to the highly toxic fuel hydrazine. NASA’s Green Propellant Infusion Mission is expected to be developed and flown in approximately three years. The Space Technology Program will provide $45 million for the mission, with some additional cost-sharing by mission co-investigators.
