The Eldorado was Cadillac’s last model to downsize, after the rest of the brand bowed to the interests of fuel economy and cleaner styling in 1977. There was of course another big downsizing coming in just a few years, but nobody was focused on that yet. The engine was also smaller, as the big block era faded from view.
