The conventional way to make gasoline from gas is to convert the gas to a synthesis gas, then into methanol, followed by conversion to straight-chain hydrocarbons and finally via reforming into a high-octane hydrocarbon blend. Given the current low gas prices, this generates both technological and economic benefits.

British Airways will invest in LanzaJet’s first commercial-scale Freedom Pines Fuels facility in Georgia and acquire cleaner burning sustainable aviation fuel from the plant. BA expects the fuel to be available to power a number of its flights by the end of 2022. The plant in Georgia is due to begin construction this year.

One compact KP35 high-pressure turbocharger generates boost pressure at low exhaust gas flow rates for rapid acceleration at low engine speeds without delay or turbo lag. As engine speed increases, the exhaust gas stream is split, and the larger K04 low-pressure turbocharger works in series with the KP35 high-pressure turbocharger.

The increase in cars with engine capacity of more than 2,000cc is not necessarily a reflection that more people have bought gas guzzlers as, for this category of car, CO 2 emissions have decreased by approximately 20% over the period. The two-liter car today is much cleaner, greener and safer than its decade-old predecessor.

The German government is co-funding the three-year project that will test the first cars to run on dimethyl ether (DME) ( earlier post ), commonly used as a non-toxic propellant in aerosol spray gas, and monooxymethylene ether (OME1). Like liquefied petroleum gas, DME must be stored in a slightly pressurized tank.
