Chalmers team identifies two main challenges for bio-hydrocarbon fuel production from cheap sources

Green Car Congress

Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, have identified two main challenges for renewable biofuel production from cheap sources: lowering the cost of developing microbial cell factories; and establishing more efficient methods for hydrolysis of biomass to sugars for fermentation. That is in line with our research too.

HeatReCar project demonstrates technical feasibility of thermoelectric generator for waste heat recovery; economic case more difficult

Green Car Congress

A recently completed European project coordinated by Centro Ricerche Fiat (CRF) demonstrated the technical feasibility of a Bi 2 Te 3 -based thermoelectric generator (TEG) for waste heat recovery for application to a diesel light-duty truck (LDT). This requires cheap, lightweight thermoelectric material standing temperatures up to 650 ?C.

China researchers synthesize high-density aviation fuel with cellulose

Green Car Congress

Scientists in China have developed a process for converting cellulose from plant waste from agriculture and timber harvesting into high-density aviation fuel: a polycycloalkane mixture. Tuning the reaction conditions also permits the selective production of methyl cyclopentane, which can be used as high-octane-number gasoline additive.

IoT-ize Your Old Gadgets With a Mechanical Hijacking Device

Cars That Think

KAIST/Korea Polytechnic University The paper doesn't directly address the cost of the MHD, and with three motors and some other electronics in it, it's not likely to be super cheap. But doing so is wasteful, whereas the MHD potentially gives a smart new life to many old things.

Molten-Salt Battery Freezes Energy Over a Whole Season

Cars That Think

They used nickel and aluminium as materials for the cathode and anode respectively, with sodium aluminium tetrachloride (NaAlCl 4 ) as the molten-salt electrolyte—all relatively cheap, earth-abundant materials. This electrolyte has a melting point of around 157ºC, and remains solid over a large spectrum of room temperatures. “We

Michelin doesn’t want you to buy as many EV tires

Baua Electric

Michelin sees a future in which its tires might be more expensive but last much longer and be much less impactful on the environment. At Sonoma Raceway, it also provided an on-the-road look at part of that future with mass-market tire technology that will likely go into production in 2025. Michelin 45% sustainable tire.
