This event will feature pitches from a select group of ARPA-E teams developing energy storage technologies. Open funding solicitations.

Battery swap stations are Nio’s signature replenishment facility, and it is currently the only company offering such models to the general consumer. There are also other companies in China that offer models with battery swap support, but for the taxi market. Swapping to become more efficient by using smaller batteries.

Cheap and abundant, sodium is a promising candidate for new battery technology. However, the limited performance of sodium-ion batteries has hindered large-scale application. Sodium-ion batteries (NIBs) have attracted worldwide attention for next-generation energy storage systems. A paper on the work appears in Nature Energy.

They wanted to see whether an electric vehicle could feed electricity back to the grid. The company’s president, Tom Gage , dubbed the system “vehicle to grid” or V2G. And EV owners would become entrepreneurs, selling electricity back to the grid. And indeed, that’s how promoters of vehicle-to-grid technology perceive the EV.

In addition to reinjecting electricity into the power grid, the bidirectional charger supports a vehicle-to-load (V2L) function for powering electrical appliances directly from the car. A smartphone app used to program bidirectional charging, simply by setting the time when the vehicle is going to be used next and the desired battery level.
