EPA grants waivers for California’s on-highway heavy-duty vehicle and engine emission standards

Green Car Congress

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is granting two waivers of preemption regarding four California Air Resource Board (CARB) regulations related to California’s heavy-duty vehicle and engine emission standards. In this instance, CARB requested two waivers for regulations relating to heavy duty vehicles and engines.

T&E: tests show cars powered by electrofuels emit high levels of criteria pollutants

Green Car Congress

E-fuels are made by combining green hydrogen with CO 2 to produce liquid fuel that can be similar to gasoline or diesel used in conventional engines (as well as kerosene used in aviation). The emissions were compared to the standard E10 EU gasoline. A substantial decrease in particle emissions was observed on all tests.

A Bamboo Carbon Filter for Diesels Could Reduce Emissions

Cars That Think

After all, diesel cars cost less to maintain, burn less fuel, and have a longer engine life. Although the pollutant emissions of a diesel engine are less than those of a gasoline one, it still emits carcinogens, nitrous oxides, and soot. Older models don’t even have the emission-control features that newer ones do.

Research consortium investigating use of DME blends in diesels with minimal retrofitting

Green Car Congress

Like its sister molecule methanol, DME can be produced particularly efficiently and cost-effectively as a climate-neutral energy source and is characterized by emission-reducing properties in diesel engine combustion (virtually soot-free when used as a pure fuel with simultaneous reduction of nitrogen oxides).
